van Kempen scores twice in No. 14 Syracuse field hockey’s 2-1 OT win over No. 18 Cal
13 games into the season, one thing has been nearly guaranteed on a game-by-game basis for 14th ranked Syracuse field hockey, a Bo van Kempen goal. Today in Su’s 2-1 win over 18th ranked Cal, the grad student found the back of the cage twice. The two goals push van Kempen’s season total to 11 on the year, a team leading mark. For Head Coach Lynn Farquhar, she’s grateful to have van Kempen on her side.
“We’re just lucky to have her. Like I said before, this team kind of the heart, the spirit, the passion of what this group has, I think, is incredibly special. And you see her continue to show up every week, and you can see even she’s advanced at the field a little bit more today than we typically see, right like this group is just getting comfortable playing together, and that’s exciting for and that’s exciting for us. So yeah, we’re all we’re all Jimmy fans.”
Van Kempen now has seven game winning goals on the year. For the Grad Student, it’s just something about playing in the big moments.
“I really like to perform under pressure. I think all the teams have a lot of confidence in me, and I have to just finish it game after game, and luckily, it’s going pretty well so far.”
The win here in the 315, marks a perfect four for four home stand for the orange over the last two weeks. Su is now set to hit the road for the rest of the month of October, starting with third ranked Virginia on friday. The orange haven’t beaten the Cavaliers in 11 straight matchups.
