Syracuse’s Run Defense Gashed in 37-31 Loss to Boston College
In Boston College’s 37-to-31 win over Syracuse, two Eagle running backs ran all over the Orange. Let’s take a look at them in the program. The first one is Kye Robichaux. He’s a known quantity, he had 198 yards and two scores. But the other one isn’t on here. Jordan McDonald had 137 yards and a score. He wasn’t on the program, but he was in the box score, all part of a tough day for this Syracuse defense. After the game, head coach Fran Brown said he needs a better performance from his defensive line.
“How much did they rush for? That’s not physical enough. They do a good job of running the ball, I told you that Coach (Bill) O’Brien outcoached me, so it just came to the fact that when we would get to situations to stop them, he went to something else. He had a fourth, fifth, and sixth plan. I obviously wasn’t ready for that, so that was on myself. I’ve gotta be able to fix that.”
This is an SU team that has been hampered by injuries to the defensive line, but senior linebacker Marlowe Wax says he believes in the guys who have taken their place.
“I mean, of course, you’re always going to want your brothers out there. You want some of the guys who went down, some of the guys we’re going to have back later on. You always want them back. But the guys we got there, I’m confident in them, I trust them 1,000 percent.”
“You know, I put it on me and Marlowe (Wax), right? And Fadil (Diggs) and (Alijah) Cinco (Clark) and Duce (Chestnut), we’re the leaders of this defense, so we gotta step up and play better.”
With this stinging loss, Syracuse drops to 6-and-3. Fran Brown’s team has some things to figure out before next week, as they go from Boston to Berkeley, a cross-country trip to Cal to face the Golden Bears for just the third time ever, and the first time since 1967. Kickoff for that game slated for noon, local time. Reporting from Chestnut Hill, I’m Peter Elliott, CitrusTV.
