Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse starts its season strong, crushes UAlbany 21-9

They say, “sharing is caring,” and that’s exactly what No. 6 Syracuse Women’s lacrosse did in its season opener against UAlbany. 11 different goal-scorers came through for the Orange to top the Great Danes 21-9. SU Head Coach Kayla Treanor said a lot of that success had to do with offensive depth on the team.

“We have a lot of really good freshmen and a lot of players that got a ton of opportunities today. And it’s one of those things with those guys, I just wish the game could go longer. I just want to keep watching them play. They stepped up; they’re going to play really big roles for us, and there’s a lot of freshmen that are going to play. So it’s great to see them out there on the field.”

Veteran attacker Olivia Adamson tallied six points by the end of the afternoon but continued to emphasize the importance of the underclassmen and the rest of the team on the total success.

“I think it’s just been really exciting to get to work with a new group and such a talented group. We’ve been really prepared. We’ve been working really hard this off-season, just trying to be super tough. We always talk about having seven stars on the offensive end, and so having 11 different goal-scorers just speaks to the talent and depth of this team, and it’s really exciting and sets the tone for an awesome season.”

SU hopes to build on its momentum into its next contest as it travels to College Park to play No. 7 Maryland on Saturday. Opening draw is scheduled for 11am. Reporting from the JMA Wireless Dome, Sydney Chan, CitrusTV.
