Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Defeats No. 7 Maryland 15-9
No. 6 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse dominated UAlbany in game one. Today, the Orange took a step up in competition and that domination continued in a 15-9 win over No. 7 Maryland. For SU head coach Kayla Treanor, the complete effort starts on the defensive end.
“I though the defense played well,” Treanor said. “All over the field I think we were a little bit up and down. This game was a little more back-and-forth. They outshot us 28-26, so just a totally different feel of a game.”
The anchor of SU’s defensive effort was goalkeeper Daniella Guyette. After the junior made just three saves on opening day against UAlbany, she stopped 11 of Maryland’s 20 shots on goal today. Guyette says, with every start, she grows more and more comfortable.
“Seeing the shots like that and knowing that I’d get more consistent shots in this game,” Guyette said of her increased comfort in cage. “Knowing that, soon enough, I’ll get another one. If I make a mistake, I’ll be more than willing to make up for it with the next one.”
“She saw the ball a lot. She faced a lot of shots,” Treanor said. “Great performance from her.”
Syracuse looks to stymie Cornell in its next game. The Orange slaughtered the Big Red 17-4 last season. Tuesday’s matchup starts at 4 p.m.
