Syracuse Women’s Basketball struggles to defend the three-point line in a 79-58 loss to Stanford.

PALO ALTO, CA — Three-pointers were simply the difference maker in Syracuse women’s basketball’s (10-14, 4-9 ACC) matchup with Stanford (12-12, 4-9 ACC). The Cardinal made seven three-pointers in the first quarter alone, which is more than the Orange had in the entire game. That is one of the main reasons why Stanford came away with a 79-58 win over Syracuse. Orange head coach Felisha Legette-Jack says that her team just didn’t make adjustments quick enough.

“We went player to player because I thought that if we kept somebody in front of them, we would be fine, but they got us on it,” Coach Legette-Jack said. “The ball reversal and the slip. The slip came and we panicked. We came off the three point shot, as opposed to giving up the layup. We gave up the wide open layup. We needed that because they wanted the three, but we played desperate instead of playing focused. We didn’t own our own power.”

The Orange don’t have much time to make those adjustments. On Sunday, Syracuse is staying out west to take on Cal. The Golden Bears make the second-most three-pointers per game in the entire ACC, trailing just Florida State.
