Syracuse women’s basketball stalls in the second half, loses 76-73 to Boston College
GREENSBORO, NC — For the first 38 minutes of Syracuse women’s basketball’s (12-18, 6-13 in ACC) first round ACC Tournament match up with Boston College (16-16, 7-12 in ACC), the Orange led, but then, their 19-point advantage was whittled down and BC took down SU 76-73 to close the curtain on the Orange’s season. Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack says in the end, her team just played too scared.
“You can see when the fight came back in the third quarter, at around the eight-minute mark, I looked in our eyes and I saw panic again,” said Legette-Jack. “Like, we’re up 15. What are we doing?”
“I think just staying calm,” added guard Sophie Burrows. “As Coach said, we were panicking a little bit trying to get the ball in. They had a lot of defensive pressure, like, full court.”
“I mean, we had Sophie [Burrows] taking a ball out, and one of our players was right in front of her,” Legette-Jack went on to say. “Just ask for the ball and you get the ball. You’re wide open, and we never even looked, ‘cause the play didn’t say for her to get it. That’s that IQ thing that we have to get better with. Sophie had to say, ‘turn around, you’re right in front of me,’ and so I just thought that we panicked.”
And with that, Syracuse’s season is officially done. The Orange finished 12-18, which is their worst record under Felisha Legette-Jack.
