Syracuse Volleyball drops a 3-2 match against Virginia

After a first set victory, Syracuse volleyball seemed to be on its way to the first ACC win of the season against Virginia. However, the Cavaliers rallied winning the next two sets in a row, but Syracuse wasn’t done just yet, forcing five. SU even went up 3-0 to start the fifth set, but after that point everything came crashing down with UVA winning the match three sets to two and taking the fifth set 15-13. SU head coach Bakir Ganesharatnam was left speechless at the result.

“It sucks. I mean, yes, I would rather sit here and would be happier if I would win, right? But that didn’t happen, you know, so we have to move on. Probably not tonight, you know, I’m gonna watch film again and probably cry asleep, but tomorrow is a new day and we’re gonna start back up and we’re gonna keep going until we beat an ACC team.”

Despite the loss, Syracuse captain Nikki Shimao mentioned it’s all about looking forward and not reminiscing on the past.

“You to believe in like what we’re doing, what we’re talking about, what our coaches are like telling us and like continuing to buy in into that, like things are gonna fall into place and I think the biggest thing is like we believe it and we’re gonna continue to believe it, so we just have to execute it and we just fell short tonight.”

After this loss, Syracuse is 0-9 in conference play. Another team struggling against ACC opponents is Virginia Tech, who the Orange will host right here on Sunday. The Hokies are 1-7 against conference opponents. First serve for that match is at 1 p.m.
