Having to forfeit a doubles match and two singles matches is a big disadvantage. In the case of SU’s opponent, Coppin St., that’s exactly what they had to do. The Orange capitalized, winning 7-0 over the Eagles and saying Syracuse dominated would be an understatement as it wrapped up the dual in under 90 minutes. Head Coach Younes Limam explained the decision to rest first and second singles players, Zeynep Erman and Viktoriya Kanpatskaya, and trust the importance of coming into today with a positive attitude.
“At this point of the season, we had a very physical match yesterday and we had one today and another one tomorrow. So just trying to see who needed to play a little bit and who needed to rest a little bit more and we went from there. I think it was important for us to come in here with the right attitude and to redeem ourselves after a tough one yesterday. I’m very pleased about how professional [they were] and we talked a little bit about being efficient on the court and not wasting a lot of energy,” said Limam.
In total, Syracuse won 60 games compared to just three for Coppin St. That included all four singles matches resulting in 6-0, 6-0 victories for the Orange as they improved to 10-1 on the season. Next up, SU welcomes Virginia Tech tomorrow at 11 a.m.
