Syracuse Tennis overcomes early struggles in 5-2 victory over JMU
Drew Albaugh: Have you ever heard the saying, “A Tale of Two Halves”? Well, the tennis equivalent would be, What happened here in Drumlins as Syracuse beats JMU 5–2. The Orange got outclassed in the doubles pairings, losing all three, but then in singles, they won five of six. Syracuse head coach Younes Limam is proud of how his team bounced back.
Younes Limam: “It’s never easy to lose a doubles point. Obviously, doubles strength gives you a lot of momentum going into your singles, but… Super proud of them. They showed a lot of heart and desire to put that doubles loss behind them and just show up in the singles. It was incredible. And just… Yeah. Very proud of the team.
Constance Levivier: “Overall, I think it’s very good for confidence to win those matches. So I’m really happy with that. And for the team, I think it’s good. I think Shiori finished before me, but it’s good to win those points and then the team feels more confident after that. So I’m really happy.”
Albaugh: The Orange have been dominant in singles play all year long. Syracuse has won 10 of 12 matches on its way to a 2-0 start. The Orange search for a 3–0 start tomorrow against Fordham. The Rams season opener is happening right now behind me. Reporting from Drumlins, Drew Albaugh, Citrus TV.
