Syracuse takes down #18 Virginia Tech in its first ranked win since 2022
April 23rd 2022. That’s the last time that Syracuse softball defeated a top 25 opponent until today Syracuse took down number 18 Virginia Tech two to one thanks to a smashed home run from Madison Knight in the bottom of the second and then a single up the middle from McKenzie Foster in the bottom of the fifth after the game the second baseman said her approach was really simple.
“For me I knew like I just needed to put the ball in play. I know with my speed if I can put the ball play with a runner on third, especially with her speed, I, she’ll probably score so for me it was just about seeing the ball putting it in play.”
“You know I think that they did a really really good job sticking to the game plan. Um she’s a really good pitcher you know she’s one of the best in our conference everybody knows that. Um you know and I thought they did a really really good job not getting frazzled right. Stuck to the game plan of kind of what we went in there trying to do um you know and I think the biggest thing today was timely hitting right something that kind of has evaded us this entire season. Um but I thought we when we had Runners on we did a really really good job of timely hitting today.”
While the Orange may want to bask in this victory, their season isn’t quite over yet. The Orange have to return tomorrow to take on Virginia Tech again with that game starting at one, If the orange can pick up a victory it will be just their second ACC Series win of the season and it will all but lock up an ACC tournament appearance.
