Syracuse Softball Sweeps Niagara In Home Opener

After six weeks on the road, Syracuse softball was finally back in the comfort of its own home. The Orange won both games of a Wednesday doubleheader against Niagara – the first game a 7-6 thrilling comeback win, with the second game a 15-0 thrashing of the Purple Eagles. In game one, the Orange were down 6-3 going into the final frame, when senior Tessa Galipeau walked it off.
“I think it was a team effort. Tessa just got the opportunity to be able to come out there with the big blow, but I think that inning was kind of a reflection of a lot of people doing a lot of things well and really just passing the bat.”
After a heart-pounding victory in game one, Syracuse had to go back out there and play a whole other game, and the Orange were dominant. Head coach Shannon Doepking described how her team was able to go out, refocus its mind, and win game two.
‘I mean, I think game one kinda shocked us if you want my honest opinion. I don’t think anyone expected that to be that way. I think we came out flat, I think we, you know, weren’t really on offense, you know, so I think it was more a wake-up call for us to lock in. We can’t just show up to games, we never can just show up to games, you know, and I think that that was what you guys got to see game two.”
Now 2-0 on its home slate, Syracuse will welcome in ACC foe Clemson for a three-game weekend series this Friday starting at 4 p.m. For now though, I’m Cole Purvis, CitrusTV.
