It had been almost eight years since Syracuse softball had picked up a top-25 series victory, until today. The Orange took down No.15 Virginia Tech 6-2 in game three. Madison Knight hit a birthday bomb to left field, there were singles for everybody, and Lindsey Hendricks threw her second complete game of the series. However, after the game, Syracuse head coach Shannon Doepking that there’s something a little more important about today’s win.

“It means a lot,” Doepking said. “But, it’s not even about that. It’s just about the fact that we want to extend our season. That’s all we have our eyes set on right now and it’s not about the rankings and none of that stuff.”

“I am so proud of this team,” said sophomore pitcher Madison Knight. “I literally will do anything for this team. If I have to put my body on the line, I will. I am just so proud and how hard they work in practice, it just shows out here. We literally put our blood, sweat and tears into this game and our love for each other. I think it just shows how much work this team puts in.”

Syracuse now holds sole position of 10th place in the ACC standings, and if they can maintain it through the final week, they will be guaranteed a postseason birth and a chance at an ACC title.

However, before that, the Orange have to come back to Skytop Softball Stadium to take on Cornell in a mid-week doubleheader. Game one is at 3:00 P.M., game two is scheduled for 5:00 P.M.
