Syracuse Men’s Soccer holds on to beat UAlbany 3-1 from Casey Field

When the clock struck midnight and the calendar turned to October 1st, 2024, Syracuse Men’s Soccer might be glad the first half of its season has finally come and gone. After starting off the year 3-4-3 through August and September, the ’Cuse start off the 10th month of the year 1-0 with a 3-1 win over UAlbany. It wasn’t just the usual suspects on the field for the Orange. With Nick Kaloukian and Chimere Omeze both sidelined for both picking up their fifth yellow cards of the year, it was Dom Bell and Carlos Zambrano who took their spots on the pitch. In addition, Michael Acquah found the back of the net for the first time in his Syracuse career. Head Coach Ian McIntyre couldn’t be prouder of his guys.

“I said to Michael afterwards, I was delighted for him. He’s such a hardworking and selfless player and kid,” he said. “I think Dom was tired, he kept looking over and we just didn’t make eye contact with him, we didn’t know he was tired. But that’s his first 90 minutes in a long time. And we needed him, we needed his size.”

While the Great Danes might not be having the year that they want to now dropping to 2-8-1 on the season, it doesn’t get any easier for Syracuse. The Orange return home to face off against Notre Dame Saturday at 7. The Fighting Irish were one of the best teams in the ACC and all of the country last year, and recently just beat the reigning champs in Clemson 2-1 earlier this week. Kickoff from SU Soccer Stadium is set for 7.
