Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Fights For Blowout Win Over Colgate
By Luke Burgess | @BurgessLuke03
Just two days ago, Colgate came away with an improbable win against Penn State to open its season. Today, the Orange punched the Raiders in the mouth, quite literally in an overly physical contest, The Orange muscled away an 18-10 win. The goals today came in bursts, So after a tough second quarter head coach Gary Gait knew exactly what to say to his players before the start of the second half. Some teams, you know, you’re gonna play that way. And I just tried to urge our players to, you know, put the ball in the back and net, and if they want to play physical, make them pay by blowing them out. And, you know, I think in that second quarter, we got caught a little bit trying to, you know, puff our chest out a little bit. Colgate would score a goal, you know, and we knew, you know, we’re gonna get the ball right back and we’re able to respond to it, you know, so I think that’s big. 18 goals means that there were a ton of gold scores, and that was certainly the case tonight. Joey Spallina picked up his second hat trick in just two games, and Michael Leo picked up his first of the year. But it wasn’t just the attackmen that were factoring in on offense. The long poles also got involved. On Saturday it was Billy Dwan who scored, tonight, Saam Olexo found twine for the orange.
