Syracuse Men’s Basketball resurrects its offense against UAlbany

After dropping their ACC opener this past Saturday against Notre Dame in game in which the orange made zero three-point shots, the three-point line came alive against the Great Danes of Albany. 102-85 the final here from the JMA Wireless Dome. The orange went six of 15 from three and a big part of that Donnie Freeman, a perfect four for four. The freshman phenom not starting in today’s game but that didn’t matter. Another 20-plus-point performance for him, a fourth straight game with that statline. For other players for this orange team going in double digits in terms of points, and it’s what Adrian Autry credits to their best offensive performance of the season.

ADRIAN AUTRY: “I thought we had a good balance you know. Right now we’re not shooting the ball well you know, but you know we took 15 threes and I think we probably got to take a couple more. Some more just to give ourselves a chance you know. With Notre Dame we didn’t score any. We took nine, but if you only take nine, you’re not going to give yourself a lot of chances to make them. So you know that’s what we talked about. Giving ourselves a chance to make some more threes and take some more threes.”

DONNIE FREEMAN: I think for us, we were playing with a different confidence. Everybody had it going so we kind of kept pushing through that. We had five players double digits, I mean I could be wrong I don’t think we’ve had that all season.”

Despite the 100 plus offensive performance today from the Orange, head coach Adrian Autry addressing the defensive struggles that came in this game especially in the final eight minutes saying his team “played like freshman” but still believes their best basketball is still to come.

AUTRY: “Well we just you know we try to get better after every game. You know after every game, we break it down you know. We see you know, we pull good, we pull things that we want to learn from, what we need to improve on. So I’m sure it’s a lot of things that we’ll take especially in our last seven to eight minutes and continue to improve on our zone defense and our zone rebound. And that’s the one thing that we got to do a better job of.”

EDDIE LAMPKIN: “Me they send a double, I pass the ball. So just being able to hit my open teammates is that’s all I really care about. And it don’t matter who scores the ball to me.”

The orange will look to use today’s win as momentum for one of the biggest rivalries in all of college basketball. Georgetown heading to the JMA Wireless Dome this Saturday, tip off is set for 2:30. It will be the 100th matchup between the Orange and the Hoyas, but for now reporting in the JMA Wireless Dome Chloe Smarz, Citrus TV.
