Syracuse Men’s Basketball falls to Florida St. 90-74

AUSTIN BARACH: It kind of speaks to the season it’s been for Syracuse men Hoops but in a 16-point loss Saturday night at Florida State there are actually some positive

takeaways one of them being JJ Starling’s return. He made the offense look a whole lot more functional, but after the game in a defeat 90 to 74, Adrian Autry the head coach talked about how despite JJ’s return there were a lot of mistakes that the team could not overcome.

ADRIAN AUTRY: Just too many turnovers especially in the second half some costly ones and mixed rebounds that we did not get. In transition we had some opportunities we just couldn’t cash them in. I mean I thought that was a difference and they got some transition points. We just have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball these last four games. We can’t-it’s going to be hard for us to do anything if we keep turning the ball over like this. Probably the last 10 points at the end you know we filing trying to trying to you know get some steals and I thought we just thought we fouled a lot. The score did not indicate that you know how close the game was.

J.J. STARLING: There’s so much of what I do so there was a lot of days I was bored. You know I couldn’t go to the gym instead I just had to lay in bed just look at the four walls in my room. It was definitely hard but I’m I’m happy to be back with my guys.

AUTRY: Having JJ back you know, that was you know that was probably the best news we had. And again you know not playing for a couple of weeks I thought he gave us an injection you know of energy getting to the basket, creating for others.

STARLING: This was a really good game of getting downhill and just kicking out. So Chris was able to get like easy shot so I just want to continue to improve on that and just um make winning plays whether I’m scoring or not defending. I just want to I just want to win so glad you asked that uh it feels amazing.

CHRIS BELL: Just having back him being able to drive and make the defense collapse gives me more open looks. You can definitely feel his presence when he’s gone and then you can definitely feel his presence when he’s back. So it’s good to have him back.

BARACH: Chris Bell to his credit had an attitude adjustment. He came off the bench for the first time in his career and he scored 18 points. He connected on four triples the most of any game this season. The team though is now 0 and 3 in the ACC and returns home on Tuesday to play a middling Georgia Tech team in the dome.
