Syracuse Men’s Basketball Brushes Past Colgate, 74-72

Peter Elliott: If you’re a Syracuse men’s basketball fan, you might want to get your blood pressure checked. It is stressful watching this team. Cardiac ‘Cuse brushed past Colgate 74-to-72 on Tuesday night, following that nail-biting season opener against Le Moyne. After the game, the Orange were in agreement: there was one reason why this game against the Raiders was so close.
Jyare Davis: I think we played terrible in transition. It’s something that Coach Red (Autry) constantly preaches to us, it’s something that we constantly work on since I got here in the summer.
Donnie Freeman: I feel like our transition defense has to improve when we get into conference play and especially when we get to Barclays (Center) and play against the faster teams.
Adrian Autry: At the end of the day, where we didn’t do a good job of was transition defense, alright. They got 22 points in transition. That’s where we didn’t do a good job at.
Elliott: The end result was a win, but that was still the most impassioned we’ve seen Adrian Autry after a game since that blowout loss to Wake Forest last season. There was another thing he wanted on the record. This one’s positive. He was proud of the way his team crashed the glass.
Autry: Talk about this: forty-five rebounds. We haven’t had 45 rebounds in a long time. Alright. Our problem is we’ve gotten 31 offensive rebounds in the first two games and only finished — we only got 20 points out of it. That’s the problem.
Elliott: There was one more thing that Autry wanted to remind the media after this game. This is a Colgate program that has made the NCAA Tournament the last four seasons. Not the easiest way to start your non-conference slate. The hope is they’ll be able to breathe a little on Saturday, when Youngstown State comes to the Dome. Tipoff against the Penguins is set for 1 p.m. Reporting for CitrusTV, I’m Peter Elliott.
