Syracuse loses in a close one 4-1 against No.10 Duke
There is no such thing as a moral victory in tennis. But if there were Syracuse’s (7-2, 1-2 in ACC) four one loss to number ten, Duke (8-2, 2-0) is about the closest thing to it. Su won one of three doubles matches and in singles play, won a set in three of six contests. For SU head coach Younes Limam. He’s proud of how his team fought through adversity.
“Very, very pleased on how we played with, with a lot of, a lot of intensity. I think we played with a purpose. I think strategically, we exposed a lot of their weaknesses. And one thing for sure is, I think we’re, we’re a very good team, and I think we got to stay healthy. I think that’s, big part of it. I think if we do, I really like our matchups against anybody in the country.”
Someone who can certainly hang with anyone in the country is Su’s number one. Miyuka Kimoto, the senior, won two zero in a set sweep over the eighth best player in the country. Rena values what’s more alongside her new running mate Nelly Knezkova. She also won her doubles set. So Miyuka, what do you think about your new doubles partner?
“Even if I missed one she said, Oh, it’s okay, we will get this next one. And we get it. Thank you. Yeah, we did so well. And we played together. We played for each other. That was fun.”
But losing is never fun. Syracuse has now lost 15 straight against Duke, remaining winless all time. Su’s next chance for redemption is this Friday against Miami. Game time is set for 3 p.m. right here at Drumlins. Reporting from Drumlins. I’m Drew Albaugh, Citrus TV.
