Syracuse Ice Hockey knocks off RIT 4-2
After a two-week break away from home ice, Syracuse Ice Hockey came back to Tennity Ice Pavilion and secured its first win in over 40 days with a 4-2 victory over RIT. That was off the back of four unanswered scores from the Cuse and head coach Brittany Smith said it’s all about sticking to the game that you always play.
“I mean we definitely talked about it after the first period that that wasn’t our hockey at all.We didn’t feel like we were playing the right way so you know great job for them to come out and be able to completely shift our game to what we were needing to do in order to come back and win that one. In terms of what we changed I mean there’s no tactics or systems we’re changing I think it was just a mindset tonight.”
While it was a team effort to win this one in Tennedy, forward Bryn Sarella became clutch down the stretch. The grad student scored two goals in the third period and bagged a win for SU. However, the forward simply says that it’s all about embracing the role as a leader.
“Again I think just kind of leading by example doing my best to show the younger girls that you can do good things if you just are confident with the puck and just kind of leading them by example.”
Well Syracuse avoided its longest losing streak in program history and now it looks to enhance its winning streak tomorrow in Rochester with another matchup against RIT.
