Syracuse falls to Cornell by late Goal in the Final Minutes

The story for Syracuse Men’s Soccer this season all really sums up to one word: Heartbreak. Whether it was when SU had Louisville on the ropes, but the Cardinals managed to score with just 29 seconds left in the contest. Or tonight when the Orange looked like they’re on the verge of drawing a near top 25 opponent. Instead, Cornell beat Syracuse 1-0 to keep the Big Red’s undefeated season alive and push Syracuse back to .500 across the board. Overall, it was a solidly played contest, and Ian Mcintyre thought so too. The issue has just been closing out games, but the head coach thinks that things will come around eventually.

“We’re close. I like our group. I think we are growing into a team that can win these games” he said. “And when we do, and we will, its going to be very enjoyable. But right now, it’s a process with a new group and you saw an experienced Cornell team find a way to win that game tonight and unfortunately, came at our expense.”

This marks the third straight year that Cornell has beaten Syracuse, dating all the way back to 2022, the year SU won the national championship. It doesn’t appear that the Orange are on the same trajectory so far, but the next chance to get back in the win column comes on Friday against Wake Forest. The family weekend festivities kick off at 7 right here from the hill.
