Syracuse Drops Both Games of Sunday Doubleheader to North Carolina, Both in Down-to-the-Wire Fashion

Well, after Syracuse softball won game one of its series against North Carolina on Friday, it seemed the Orange had garnered some momentum. However, that all came to a screeching halt on Sunday, as SU dropped both games of its twin-bill against the Tar Heels. The first game was an 11-6 defeat, with the second game a 10-9 heartbreaking loss in ten innings to end a marathon day of softball at Skytop Stadium.
“I’m not a moral victory kind of coach, I’ll never be a moral victory kind of coach, you know, they just beat us. I think they did a better job with the big hits, right, I think we had opportunity after opportunity, we just didn’t get it done. I thought there were some really, really gutsy performances from a lot of people on our time, but at the end of the day they stepped up and had timely hitting and we didn’t.”
“I think it’s just not taking this to heart. I mean we obviously had more hits throughout the game than them, and it’s just about not laying low, don’t let your foot off the gas pedal, take all the positives and keep going at it for next weekend. Don’t lay low. We know we showed fight throughout the whole game.”
Well, if you’re a fan of offense, today was certainly your kind of day. The Orange and the Tar Heels combined for 46 hits between the two games. But, at the end of the day, coach Shannon Doepking and her squad are still yet to pick up their first ACC series win. The ‘Cuse can try to do that down in Atlanta next week at Georgia Tech. First pitch of game one between the Orange and the Yellow Jackets is Friday at 6 p.m. I’ll have live coverage from Atlanta, so stay tuned to my twitter @Cole_Purvis. For now, reporting from Skytop Stadium, I’m Cole Purvis.
