SU upsets Notre Dame 2-1 on Orange Night from the Hill
Whenever you get a chance to battle a team that just went to the national championship, it’s easy to get the adrenaline pumping. Even on a cold, Saturday night in Syracuse. While SU and Notre Dame have both fallen out of the top 25 throughout the course of the year, the Orange and the Irish put together a contest that nobody on the hill will soon forget. Syracuse beat Notre Dame 2-1 in a match that came down to the bitter end, with all three goals being scored in the second half. For head coach Ian McIntyre, while it might have been the best win of the season for SU, all that mattered was that this match was dedicated towards pediatric cancer awareness. At the end of the day, the Orange were playing for something bigger.
“Sports, games like that, bare in comparison,” he said. “You guys are all young right? I said to my guys before, just fully appreciate what we’re doing. You guys are watching football games, enjoying being in school, you are having the time of your lives. Enjoy every moment. And I want my guys to enjoy this moment. There are tough moments. Sending our love to Malia and her family and if we can put a few smiles on some faces tonight then we have done our job.”
Playing for Malia tonight helped propel the ‘Cuse to a 5-4-3 record and back to back wins for the first time since the opening week of the season. Next up for SU is a quick turnaround with a trip to Providence coming on Tuesday. The Friars right now are the sixth-ranked team in the nation, sitting at 6-3-2. Kickoff is set for 7.
