SU Loses Game One of the Home-and-Home After Two Third Period Scores

Headed into Syracuse’s return to Tennity Ice Pavilion, it was six for seven on the penalty kill. The only goal it allowed came against eighth-ranked St Lawrence. Well, in SU’s two one laws to RPI, both of the engineers’ goals came while the Orange were short handed. Syracuse head coach Brittany Smith said, sometimes success isn’t determined by statistics.

“I thought our penalty kill, as much as we gave up two did a good job as well. You know that second goal off a block, right on their stick in the back of our net. So things like that are going to happen. I feel like they did a great job battling though.”

An area where Syracuse’s success could be backed by statistics would be the power play. SU boasts the best offense on the advantage in the nation. Head Coach Brittany Smith admires what they did with their one goal coming on the power play today.

“They’ve definitely been, you know, something we can rely on our Power Play has, whether they score or not, been something that’s definitely gained momentum for us. You know, getting that one in the first period tonight, when I believe we were being outplayed, we end the first up, and that was huge for us. That was a little bit of confidence to know, you know, that gave us an opportunity to continue to find our game. So kudos to the power play tonight.”

Last season, Syracuse split the home and home with RPI. It took a loss in game one and then secured a win in game two. Can history repeat itself in Houston Fieldhouse tomorrow? Find out then. Reporting from Tennity Ice Pavilion. John Boccio, Citrus TV.
