No.7 Syracuse Mens Lacrosse upsets No. 5 Notre Dame 14-9
Four minutes into this afternoon’s contest between number seven Syracuse and fifth-ranked Notre Dame, there was a sense of deja vu throughout the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse trailed 3-0 for a second straight game, but after that the Orange would go on a 9-0 run. All of that offensive might was enough to propel Syracuse to a 14-9 victory, its first win over the Fighting Irish in seven years.
Gary Gait: “We talk about really playing 60-plus minutes with consistency, so that’s what we’re really working on. So yeah, we had a bad five minutes, but I thought, you know, the 55 other minutes we played pretty well, and we didn’t give up, we didn’t panic. You know, Peyton Anderson got the first one, got us going, and we went from there.”
Joey Spallina: “I think people think, you know, that we’re not good in the big games, and, you know, I don’t think we really care about that. I don’t think we care about what anybody has to say outside of our locker room and, you know, I think the way our schedule is and, you know, the way the ACC is, you know, there isn’t really a, you know, a layup kind of a game. You know, I think every team’s obviously great and, you know, it’s the toughest league to play in in the country.”
The victory marks Syracuse’s first six-game win streak in the Gary Gate era. The Orange will look to try and make that seven next week against top-ranked Cornell on Long Island. Game time for that one is set for 4 p.m. Reporting from the JMA Wireless Dome, Dan Shalam, CitrusTV.
