No. 6 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse secures its third ranked win over No. 17 Loyola
Two game away, and two more games in the win column for Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse; and tonight, SU put Loyola Maryland in the Dark. The Orange topped the Greyhounds 14-12 in this one, and for Emma Muchnick, who scored two of Syracuse’s three goals in the first four minutes, it all came down to having a lot of offensive unity and working together as a team.
“This team is very special and unique in the fact that we have compared to last year. I’m someone that, thankfully, on our team has been in certain situations before with a little more experience, so I just [like to] hype them up, reminding them that I have their back and that I trust them and that they need to run themselves too,” Muchnick said.
“From the very first play, Mileena started off with setting a great pick for me, and that was kind of the first look, and I think that starting that early and getting a little bit of juice in the beginning with all the girls was beneficial for our team but also me too,” she added.
Loyola has one of the top draw controls units in the country, ranking second in draw control percentage and third in draw control wins per game. But still, Greyhounds’ Head COach Jen Adams said that wasn’t enough to stop the Orange, especially in that first half.
“Obviously a disappointing loss for us today, but so much credit to Syracuse. They’re always such a tough opponent and extremely well-coached. Their offense came up big. I think we gave up way too many penalty minutes. You certainly can’t tie your hands behind your back and expect to play Syracuse tough. I think we put ourselves in a situation that was very difficult to get out of in that first half,” Coach Adams explained.
The Cuse hope to build on this momentum as it heads home to the 315 and hosts No. 21 ACC opponent on Sunday. Opening draw is scheduled for noon. But for now, reporting from the Ridley Athletic Complex, Sydney Chan, CitrusTV.
