No. 6 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse crushes California on the West Coast, 18-6
California Memorial Stadium may be over 2,700 miles away from the JMA Wireless Dome, but here in “Bear Territory” in Berkeley, California, No. 6 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse made itself at home and crushed Cal, 18-6. This victory ties for the Orange’s biggest win since they topped UAlbany 21-9 in their home opener.
SU attacker Emma Ward had five assists in this contest, becoming second in program history.
Orange Head Coach Kayla Treanor commented on the grad student’s outstanding performance.
“I’m really proud of her. She’s got unbelievable lacrosse IQ, and she’s got great vision. She’s really like a quarterback out on the field. Really proud of her, and just want her to keep it going,” Treanor said.
But it’s not just the older players that have had an immense impact on this Syracuse team. Freshman Caroline Trinkaus has been lethal, especially on those 1 on 1 opportunities, and tied her personal-best 4 goals this afternoon. The midfielder credits the rest of the team for her success.
“It’s all credit to my teammates, playing around them and with them, and the energy they bring, it brings to me. I love every second of it,” Trinkaus reflected.
“She’s a great player. I think if teams play us in a man, she’s such a threat on the ball. I thought she was really good today — I thought she was really good early, which we really needed. She’s been big for us all season,” Treanor added.
SU travels home to get some rest, before heading back on the road to play Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Saturday. Opening draw is scheduled for noon. Reporting from California Memorial Stadium, Sydney Chan, CitrusTV.
