No. 4 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse falls to No. 2 UNC, 16-8
Just moments before game time, Syracuse star player Olivia Adamson was ruled out. And that loomed large as Syracuse lost 16 to 8 to unseat for its first defeat of the season. Syracuse had just eight goals in total. UNC reached that mark after the first quarter.
And normally it’s been Olivia Adamson and Emma Ward, who’s taken over for Syracuse.
But today that just wasn’t the case. Like I said, Adamson was out, but Emma Ward struggled with just two goals. It was a tough day for SU offensively.
But it wasn’t just that, Syracuse struggled at the circle. Losing 19 to 8 in draw controls. Now all season long it’s been Meghan Rode that SU relied on. But today it was Rode and Molly Guzik who stepped in. But it was also a struggle for her. So all game long Syracuse just couldn’t win possessions and start their attack.
Now there was the draw control circle. And also the turnovers. Syracuse had 15 of them and caused just three. But one positive for the orange that they can take from this one was their goalie Daniella Guyette, who had a career best 16 saves. It’s now three straight contests she has set a career high in that category. Guyette has another chance to impress this Tuesday when Syracuse battles northwestern.
Delaney Sweitzer, the former SU goalie will be in that one. So fireworks all around inside the dome. For coverage of that one, follow @mhoffnyc on twitter for all coverage of Syracuse and Northwestern, but until then reporting from Dorrance Field. I’m Milo Hoffman, Citrus TV.
