No.3 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Advances to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament
They say that in order to win a game in college lacrosse. You have to win the battle at the draw control circle. And today that’s exactly what Syracuse did. As a Grad student, Kate Mashewske won 20 draw controls to lead Syracuse to a 15-10 victory over Stony Brook in the second round of the NCAA tournament. And after the game, head coach Kayla Treanor had high praise for the graduate students’ efforts
“She is a really special player. I mean you feel it today. We joke around, that if we lose a draw, it’s like what happened because something must have happened because she is so dominant. And I think that she is such a special player and I tink Abby Rehfuss are assistant coach just does an amazing job with her. And she made her from a really good player to the best. So I think their pair and the mentorship have been amazing. I’m just so proud of Kate and I just want her to continue to play at such an elite level. And when I look at teams across the country, when I look at our team like that is something really special about our team to have Kate at the draw.”
“I mean we had 2 weeks of practice. My coaches do a great jobs of preparing me and our circle is great. And I think just in recent games, we have really found our rhythm and our chemistry and we just take it and run with it really.”
The victory means that Syracuse will have another game inside the JMA Wireless dome this season. That will be on Thursday at Yale. The opening draw for that contest is still yet to be announced. Follow my Twitter @RahillJaiswal for all live updates of postseason coverage.
