No. 15 Syracuse Field Hockey Falls to No. 2 North Carolina, 5-0

The past two ranked matchups for number 14 Syracuse field hockey have been nearly the same. Two weeks ago at Coin stadium, su fell to then 14th ranked Ohio State, five nothing. And here today, at Shelton stadium, it was more of the same, with Syracuse falling to second ranked North Carolina, five nothing. The contest marked the first ACC match up for both sides and for Tar Heels head coach Erin Mattson, that gave her side just a little bit of a spark heading into today’s game. Our girls just show up to play and they’re motivated for this game.
Erin Matson
“It’s ACC play, no matter. Obviously, this year was the first ACC matchup of the season. So no matter who was on the other side, you know they were going to be motivated, plus having a week off and finally getting on their home turf. I think again Syracuse and an ACC team, they have a little extra motivation there because they know how important those games are. But, hats off to ‘Cuse, they give us fire every time. Luckily, our girls were just able to capitalize today.”
The loss marks the fifth straight for Syracuse against North Carolina. The L also means that SU has yet to win here at Shelton Stadium. The Orange don’t have much time to think about today’s loss as they’re set to play Longwood on Sunday at 11:30. From Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Dan Shalam, Citrus TV.
