Madison Knight Does it All in Syracuse’s 3-0 Win at Georgia Tech

In all aspects of life, versatility is key. Syracuse pitcher Madison Knight knows this is especially true on the softball field. In SU’s 3-0 win at Georgia Tech on Saturday, the junior tossed a complete game shutout in the circle, and helped her own cause by batting in the game’s first run. How does she do it? Well, to her, it’s all about having a “dog mentality.”

“It was simple. Go out there, be dogs, be scrappy if we gotta be scrappy, just kind of put together a hit or two to put up one run because I know I can win a game with a one run lead, so to go out there and win a ball game.”

“It was huge on both sides of the ball. Obviously she had the huge hit for us, and we said it to her before the game, this offense needs Madison Knight, and as much as Madison Knight has struggled, we need Madison Knight to get going because she’s just a huge part ofg everything we do, so getting her back in there and getting her in the swing of things is just again, her understanding the role and the impact she has on this team.”

“I think I just go out there and I have fun. I think I’ve been really trying to just have fun this year. I mean, I only have one more year left playing this game, so I’m gonna go out with a fight.”

Knight and the Orange made sure they didn’t leave Atlanta empty handed. Now in the home stretch of its season, Syracuse needs every win it can get to make the ACC tournament. It can continue to push towards that goal next weekend at Virginia. First pitch from Charlottesville is Friday at 5 p.m. For live updates, you can follow me on X @COle_Purvis.
