Fifth-seeded Syracuse field hockey falls 3-1 to top-seeded North Carolina in the ACC semifinals
Coming into today’s contest, fifth-seeded Syracuse field hockey was trying to pull off the improbable. Take down top-seeded, undefeated North Carolina. Safe to say, things didn’t go the Orange’s way. SU fell 3-1 to UNC. The Tar Heels dominated the game corners-wise, earning 15 APCs. Syracuse had none. It’s worthy to note that SU was without defenders Bo van Kempen and Bo Madden for a majority of the second half. That’s why head coach Lynn Farquhar was still encouraged by the group’s effort.
We had people step up during this game that were in roles they weren’t typically in. To me, our challenge for this game is are we going to come across better and can we use the in-game moments to become a better team, and I believe we did that.
The loss marks Syracuse’s sixth straight loss to UNC. Despite that though, Farquhar is still confident in her squad ahead of a potential NCAA tournament bid.
Were growing as a team, and haven’t peaked yet. So the opportunity is really something that we hope we put ourselves in the best position to do so. I think we’ll be there.
Syracuse is now in a holding pattern waiting to see if they’ll be one of eighteen teams to make the field. The selection show is slated for 10AM on Sunday. Reporting from Winston-Salem, Dan Shalam, Citrus TV.
