#14 Syracuse Field Hockey defeats Lafayette 2-1
Today in 14th ranked Syracuse field hockey’s two one win over Lafayette, the Orange jumped ahead early thanks to a penalty stroke eight and a half minutes in from Bo Madden. Then for 45 minutes, there was no scoring in the contest. Lafayette would tie up the game with three and a half minutes to go, but Syracuse defender Bo van Kempen just needed one shot off an attacking penalty corner with 30 seconds to go to give the orange the win.
Bo van Kempen- “For me personally, I mean, the injection was really good, and I had time, and then I just had to finish the job, and that’s what I did. So I think everyone did a really good job on the last penalty corner, and that’s the outcome.”
While the orange might have scored their winning goal off an attacking penalty corner, Lafayette had 16 APCs in this game, compared to Syracuse’s five, that’s just too many for Head Coach Lynn Farquhar.
Lynn Farquhar- “It’s about simple hockey and trusting in the process. And this team has to play through us, through some of that, right? Like the goals aren’t going to come every time they need to keep on knocking on the door. So better attack leads to less defense.
The Orange are now packing their bags, as they won’t be back home for two weeks. Syracuse starts off its road slate against second break North Carolina on Friday. The Orange have never beaten the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill in program history. From Coyne stadium, Dan Shalam, Citrus TV.
