After a dominating opening few minutes of the first quarter, it seemed that Syracuse Women’s Basketball was going to pull an upset over 13th-ranked Georgia Tech. However, once the Yellow Jackets pulled into drive, they were off to the races.

SU went up early with a 10-1 lead just a couple minutes into the contest. Early on the presence of Orange guard Georgia Woolley was known. The Aussie finished the contest with 22 points, which led the team. Georgia Tech slowly made its way back after shooting a surprisingly low 26% from the field in the opening quarter. Despite the lackluster shooting efforts, GT and SU were tied at 16 heading into the second quarter.

The opening couple minutes for the Cuse might have been the squad’s most impressive moments from the game as from the early parts of the second quarter Georgia Tech pulled ahead. GT guard Tonie Morgan’s eight-point effort in the frame helped the team score a whopping 28 points in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Orange by 13 in those 10 minutes and had a double-digit lead at halftime.

Out of the break, Syracuse and Georgia Tech traded points in the third quarter and it was pretty even split. But, that didn’t help out SU too much as the lead was already created and maintained by GT with a 65-51 advantage heading into the final frame.

In the final quarter, it was a booming entrance for Georgia Tech who started out on a 14-0 run against Syracuse. The Orange didn’t get their first points of the quarter until almost halfway through which included back-to-back Sophie Burrows three-pointers cutting the Yellow Jackets lead to less than 20. The Cuse had a run of their own in the second half of the frame narrowing the gap outsourcing Georgia Tech 13-3 with just over four minutes left in the contest. The scoring run just seemed to be too little and too late as Syracuse (6-7, 0-2 ACC) losses 85-68 against 13th ranked (15-0, 3-0 ACC). The Orange move to under .500 for the first time since their last ACC loss against 3rd ranked Notre Dame on December 8th.
