2nd ranked Syracuse Women’s lacrosse traveled to Clemson and did what it had to do. The Orange took down the Tigers 15-6 to win its ninth straight game.
Both teams came out of the gate a little sluggish. Neither team managed to find the back of the net for the first 10 minutes of the opening frame. However, with the score tied at one late in the first, Syracuse found its rhythm. The Orange outscored the Tigers 5-0 in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 6-1 lead. That offensive explosion was SU needed. From that point on, Clemson never got close. Syracuse rode that run to a 10-3 halftime advantage.
The second half was a little bit more competitive. The Orange only outscored the Tigers by two. However, the game was already out of reach. Grad student Emma Tyrrell continued her great run of form as she netted another hat-trick. Tyrrell also managed to tally a career-high three assists. But, the two players who stood out were Payton Rowley and Olivia Adamson. The duo both scored four goals. Rowley has now scored a hat-trick in back-to-back games. Meanwhile, Adamson became the second player on this year’s team to reach 40 goals this season.
Syracuse is now a perfect 8-0 in ACC play. SU closes out its season against Boston College on Thursday. If BC beats UVA later today, that final game would be for the ACC regular season title. However, if the Cavaliers can pull off an upset win, the Orange could clinch its first-ever outright conference regular title.
