After an 0-2 away weekend against 10th-ranked Quinnipiac, Syracuse Ice Hockey is back at Tennity tonight to start a two-game set versus Boston University. SU skates into this series on a five-game losing streak with three losses to ranked foe. BU isn’t far off the rankings. It received 6 votes this week for the top 15 which puts them as the tied-17th best team in the nation.

This game will be SU forward Jackson Kinsler’s first matchup against her former school, BU. The Wisconsin native played her freshman year in Boston and then transferred over to Syracuse for her second year. Currently, Kinsler is the tied leader in points for Syracuse and has been a huge addition for the Orange. The Shattuck St. Mary’s product is one of two players on the team with more than one score. Overall, Kinsler has four points on the year and is the tied team leader in shots.

Back to the losing streak, the Orange had spent over 30 minutes in the penalty box through the five-game stretch. SU are tied-13th in the country in that category on the season. Meanwhile, the penalty kill has registered the 6th worst percentage in the nation. Syracuse is one of just nine teams that have recorded .750% or worse on the PK. Back to total minutes, guess who is tied with Syracuse for the 13th most nationwide. None other than Boston University. The big difference between the two schools though, is that the Terriers are the seventh-best team in the country at killing the penalty. They have allowed just two power play goals on 23 short-handed stints.

Overall, BU’s scoring defense has been great throughout the season. It is a top-ten squad in goals allowed per game. The Terriers are one of 16 teams in the country who surrender less than two scores each matchup. For the Orange’s scoring offense, the numbers don’t reflect its prowess. Syracuse scored two goals versus 8th ranked St. Lawrence who is a top ten scoring defense in Division I. SU also scored a pair of goals versus RPI who sit in that top ten for scoring defense as well. The Orange have only been shut out once this season.

In the two programs’ histories, they’ve only matched up three times. The two squads only matched up for the first time in 2022. Syracuse’s record in these three games is 0-1-2. However, this will be Boston’s first trip to the Tennity Ice Pavilion. BU’s only win in the series came at home. Can SU match or even improve the home record? Find out tonight at 6pm, and then tomorrow at 3pm.
