Syracuse softball (16-5, 0-2 ACC) lost at Stanford (16-3, 4-1 ACC) on Saturday by a score of 5-1. Just as it was yesterday, one big inning for the Cardinal did the Orange in. Stanford scored three runs in its half of the second en route to its fourth conference win of the year.

With no score through one inning, Syracuse pitcher Julianna Verni would begin to stumble. Stanford infielder Taryn Kern was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run. Shortly after, with the bases still juiced, Emily Jones brought home two runs with an RBI single toward shortstop.

In the top of the third, Stanford freshman Joie Economides went yard, hitting a home run to left field to extend the lead to 4-0. SU nearly came back from that deficit yesterday, but today, they wouldn’t get as close.

The Orange did get one back in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, SU managed one run in the frame via a sacrifice fly off the bat of catcher Laila Morales-Alves. Considering the bases were full with no outs, Syracuse likely wanted more out of that inning.

Stanford got an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth, via an RBI groundout from infielder River Mahler.

Pitchers Alyssa Houston and Kylie Chung guided SU to victory, combining for just two hits allowed. Chung would officially get the win in the end.

Syracuse looks to avoid the sweep tomorrow at 3 p.m. For live updates of that game, follow @Cole_Purvis and @CitrusTVSports on X.
