SU Graduate Student named “SoldierStrong” Scholarship Recipient
Yaw Bonsu, SYRACUSE, N.Y – Syracuse University graduate student Lucas Netti has been named a SoldierStrong Scholarship recipient. The honor is given to students who exemplify the characteristics of leadership, perseverance and overcoming adversity.
The scholarship was awarded by SoldierStrong, a non-profit organization geared towards assisting veterans. “It’s an absolute honor. What I find to be the best part about it is now I can be a face for other Syracuse veterans to come to if they need help,” Netti said. “I can be a person that people look up to, feel comfortable asking questions about figuring out and help them out on their best path.”
Co-founder of SoldierStrong and Syracuse alumni Chris Meek was among those who played a role in the recipients. He noted that leadership and a strong passion for public service are just a few of the things that he looked for in a ‘SoldierScholar.’
“We want the best scholars and we believe Maxwell would have the best opportunities,” Meek said.
Netti is currently enrolled in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs as a graduate student. He hopes to graduate in August with a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a certificate of advanced studies in security studies. Netti looks to pair that with his already obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.
“Hopefully, I will be working somewhere in the government, working national security within the next couple years,” Netti says.
Netti joins Mitchell Forbes, Robert Rivera and Christopher Tonsmeire as Syracuse University students to be named a SoldierStrong scholar.
