President Joe Biden will deliver the 2023 State of the Union Address tonight at nine. He will address both parties of Congress at the US Capitol in a speech about the nation’s condition.
Syracuse University Political Science Department Chair Shana Gadarian says she expects Biden to focus his speech on the economy. She says she thinks Biden will start by highlighting his policy successes and finish with his visions for the future.
Syracuse University Political Science Professor Grant Reeher believes this speech will mark the start of Biden’s reelection campaign. Reeher says he anticipates Biden to conduct himself energetically as a way to prove he is capable of running for president despite his age.
Grant says he thinks Biden will appeal to both sides of Congress by discussing infrastructure and the opioid crisis. Grant also says he expects Biden to address more controversial issues like the War in Ukraine, the Chinese surveillance balloon, and police reform.
First lady Dr. Jill Biden has invited many guests to the event inducing Tyre Nicols’ parents, Monterey Park shooting hero Brandon Tsay, and Ukrainian ambassador Oksana Markova. Her guests reflect many of the issues the Biden Administration has faced this past year.
