SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University will host an in-person Commencement for both the classes of 2020 and 2021. The Class of 2021’s Commencement will be held on the weekend of May 22 and 23. The Class of 2020’s Commencement will be held on September 19th.
“We will do everything possible to make this year’s celebration special for our graduates,” Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a statement this morning. “However, this year’s activities will be different than year’s past.”
These differences include a virtual convocation, departmental recognitions and honor society events. Guest attendance is still up in the air, according to the University.
“It is unclear if guests will be allowed to attend Commencement activities,” Syverud said. “We hope to receive guidance from the New York State Department of Health soon.”
Commencement will take place for students on campus and will also be live-streamed for families and friends.
The Class of 2020’s Commencement will be held almost a year and a half after their graduation from the University. Graduates will receive more information about this event as planning progresses, according to SU.
“Rest assured that there is nothing Syracuse University wants more than to celebrate out graduates with all the pomp and circumstance they deserve,” Syrverud said. “And that’s what we intend to do.”
