SU Libraries Pass New Read and Publish Agreements | News Live at 6
Syracuse University Libraries will soon adopt various “Read and Publish” agreements. These agreements will greatly expand databases as they work to publish academic works with open access. This means that anyone with a working Internet connection can access works done by SU students.
While these agreements are great for subscribers and readers, who will no longer have to pay subscription fees for journals, they pose a challenge for authors. Individuals publishing their work will now have to pay journals for open access. These payments can cost thousands of dollars, and limit where authors can publish.
This is where libraries step in. Here at Syracuse University, librarians are working to provide funding for these authors who cannot afford to publish works that are necessary for their career or tenure.
