SYRACUSE, NY – A gruesome and disturbing video taken inside a Syracuse University (SU) fraternity is reaching national attention. The video is an alleged hazing incident by the university’s suspected Phi Kappa Psi chapter, according to an email sent to all students on Wednesday, October 16th,  that was leaked and posted to X on Tuesday, October 15th.

The video already has over 67,000 views and has a content warning reading “sensitive content.” In the video, two Phi Kappa Psi members are seen forcibly vomiting on an SU student lying on the floor. The video also shows another SU student tied to a pole with his mouth covered by tape.

It took the university 22 hours to respond to the video. SU’s Chancellor Kent Syverud called the situation “repugnant conduct,”

“I am disgusted by the actions that appear in these videos and condemn this conduct. The university has issued an immediate interim suspension, which halts all Phi Kappa Psi activities,” said Syverud.

The Phi Kappa Psi national council has also told the SU chapter to “cease and desist any activities.”

According to the chancellor, the university’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Office of Community Standards are investigating the alleged incident. DPS has also notified the Syracuse Police Department, as the actions in the video could result in fraternity members being charged.

“Any individuals determined to be involved will face the appropriate disciplinary action… While this investigation continues, our priority is supporting any students who have been impacted,” said Syverud.

In May 2024, Phi Kappa Psi was taken off disciplinary and social probation after the chapter was held responsible for violations of the SU Student Code of Conduct.

CitrusTV has reached out to the Syracuse Police Department, the university Interfraternity Council, and the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity but has not received any comment.
