Who Are We?

With more than 350 student members, we are one of the largest student organizations at Syracuse University. Our target audience is undergraduate and graduate students at SU and the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF).

CitrusTV was founded in 1970 as Synapse, a cable television and video art program which was funded by University Union. In 1977, the video art program separated, and the television studio production group was reorganized as UUTV. In 2004, UUTV split off from University Union to become its own recognized student organization: HillTV, which in 2006 was reorganized to become CitrusTV.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who manages CitrusTV?

An executive staff of students manages CitrusTV, an entirely student-run television studio and registered student organization. While ultimate control and authority rests with the student executive staff, two other individuals also advise the studio.

Professor Michael Schoonmaker (msschoon@syr.edu) is the university adviser. He counsels and advises CitrusTV in the exercise of its responsibilities and assists the station in establishing long-range goals and in planning and initiating short-term projects. He also assists the station in assessing its projects and programs, improving leadership skills within the organization, and ensuring its accountability and integrity.

Emily Nasal (egnasal@syr.edu) is the organizational consultant. She assists in planning events and programs, negotiating contracts, creating publicity and marketing campaigns, and procuring equipment. She also advises CitrusTV as to governing policies and procedures of the university and the Student Association.

Where can I watch CitrusTV?

The easiest place to watch CitrusTV is on our YouTube channel. You can also catch us live on Orange Television Network (channel 24.2 in campus buildings) or on-demand on our website and the OTN-Syracuse University app.

What do we do?

Students join CitrusTV to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of running a television station. In addition to television production, we also offer our members opportunities with alumni relations, engineering, marketing, promotions, systems administration and web development. We produce a variety of news, sports, and entertainment programming in addition to television commercials.

How can I get involved?

We're always looking for motivated and dedicated students to join our family at CitrusTV. All undergraduate and graduate students at SU and SUNY-ESF can join CitrusTV, regardless of home college or major. At the beginning of each semester, we hold a General Interest Meeting that you can attend to find out more information. If you missed the General Interest Meeting, you can still join CitrusTV. Contact the appropriate producer or executive staff member.

How does CitrusTV get its funding?

As a recognized student organization, the Student Association funds CitrusTV through the student activity fee. CitrusTV also receives funding through sponsorships from local business and student organizations and through donations from alumni and parents.

Where is CitrusTV located?

CitrusTV is located in the Robert B. Menschel Media Center at 316 Waverly Ave. within Watson Hall, just down the hallway from Watson Theater. We're on the Waverly Avenue side of Watson Hall across the street from the Kimmel Hall.
