Syracuse Falls To Clemson In Death Valley

Syracuse men’s soccer had an extremely tough test of character against #1 Clemson Sunday afternoon. In the end it was the Tigers who ultimately ran away with a 3-1 victory. The Orange were strong enough to battle for a one goal deficit in the first half, but the Tigers fought back for two in the second
Clemson and SU traded three goals within the first 15 minutes of play to keep the game interesting. Isaiah Reed opened the scoring in the fifth minute for his first goal of the season. Five minutes later Simon Triantafillou set up Noah Singelmann third goal of the season for an equalizer. Singelmann leads the Cuse with 5 points during the spring campaign. Then in the 15th minute, Callum Johnson’s second goal of the season helped Clemson take the lead right back.
From there, the Orange went back and forth with the Tigers offensively. SU earned four corner kicks up through 45 minutes, but they ultimately could not convert on the set pieces. On the defensive end, starting goalkeeper Russell Shealy kept Clemson at bay with four saves at the half.
To start the second half, the Tigers controlled the possession and forced two corner kicks in the first five minutes. In the 51st minute, Isaiah Reed would add to his goal contribution to put Clemson up 3-1.
From there, fouls and bookings would go to both sides through the rest of the second half, with Cuse trying to cut their two-goal deficit. The Tigers were able to neutralize SU’s three final shots of the game and secure their ninth win on the season.
The Orange now fall to 1-5-3 on the season with a valiant effort against the nation’s best, but as it has been nearly all season, the finishing has not been up to par.
Cuse plays their next match away at Louisville on Friday with kickoff at 7 PM.
