Otto’s Army During COVID-19

Benjamin Schiller, SYRACUSE, NY — Otto’s Army President Jonathan Danilich is like most SU students. He is disappointed that his club of Syracuse sports fanatics couldn’t pack the Carrier Dome like in normal years.

But now it looks like a socially distanced coronavirus testing center. This past year forced the fan-favorite club to root for the home team virtually.

“We’ve done our best to keep students involved whether it’s competitions we’ve had. We had a sign-making competition earlier in the year. We’ve had content lined up that’s teaching new freshmen what our traditions are,” says Danilich.

Otto’s Army worked with SU administrators to bring March Madness in the Dome to life, but at the last second, plans fell through.

“It sounded like we were going to get in but it was disappointing that it fell through. “It was not on athletics. It was on the state,” says Danilich

Now, it was announced that up to 900 student season ticket holders will be able to watch men’s lacrosse play on Saturday in the Dome. Students around campus are excited.

Some students are optimistic that the future will look bright as New York State starts to reopen. It is possible that more fans will be allowed into the Dome as the lacrosse season progresses.
