South Park Banned In China
By Mai Gibson – (CitrusTV)
China banned the show South Park from all online services and platforms in the country after an episode critical of censorship aired.
The episode “Band In China” criticizes Hollywood’s proneness to censor content. The episode caused the Chinese government to erase the show and delete its online presence in China.
This censor fueled current protests in Hong Kong. Supporters of the protests have expressed their appreciation for the creators of South Park on various anonymous online forums.
Protestors have encouraged more media figures to take a public stance in opposition to the lack of freedom of speech that most Chinese citizens must endure. The episode was even screened on the streets of Hong Kong during one of the protests.
