Crimson Crushes Orange 4-0 in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Syracuse (2-2, 0-0 Atlantic Coast) entered Thursday’s matchup with Harvard (1-2, 0-0 Ivy) on a two-game win streak. SU couldn’t make it three as the Crimson dominated the Orange 4-0 at Jordan Field in what was a disastrous second half for Syracuse.
When the teams entered broke after the first half, tied at 0-0, Syracuse had kept pace in enemy territory. Both sides registered three shots on goal in the first half, with neither squad budging. Then, Syracuse produced one of its worst halves in years, giving up four goals in a half for just the fifth time since 2013.
Harvard struck seven minutes into the second half. SU defender Abby Jonathan earned a yellow in the box and Harvard freshman Sophie Hirst buried the penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Then, in the 63rd, another freshman scored when forward Trinity Thomas found the back of the net. Just six minutes later, senior midfielder Leah Mohammadi gave the Crimson a 3-0 lead. Finally, Crimson freshman Taylor Nielsen blasted a goal from 25 yards out.
Redshirt senior Jordan Harris was pulled in the 70th minute, just one game removed from her first career clean sheet against St. John’s. Sophomore Lysianne Proulx didn’t fare much better, as she allowed a goal as well to finish off the Orange.
After dropping the match in Cambridge, SU continues its four-game road trip on Sunday in Boston as it takes on Northeastern at 1 pm.
