Live at 6 | Boating in Central New York
By Taylor Lang Syracuse, NY (CitrusTV) – With only 108 days until summer, the State Fairgrounds is hosting the CNY Boat Show from Thursday, February 15th, through Sunday, February 18th.
The CNY Boat show includes more than 500 boats. These include power boats, speed boats, sailboats, pontoons, kayaks and docks. With more than 250,000 square feet, visitors can walk through three different fairground buildings to see the boats on display.
In addition to buying boats, people also have the option to take boating courses. There is an eight hour course to get a New York State Boating License. It requires people to learn boating safety and how to operate and care for their water vehicles. Rules of the water and an overall comprehension of the course is tested at the end of the day.
The other course is sponsored by the U.S. Coastguard and is only 15 minutes. It quickly teaches people how to work the vessel they are on in the case of an emergency. The goal is to teach someone how to safely bring a boat to shore if the driver cannot.
Visitors can learn about the different shipwrecks of Central New York while walking through an exhibit in one of the buildings.
While the event is expected to bring in thousands of people, the Syracuse economy is hoping to benefit from Career Day on Thursday. Marine specialists will be talking about local job openings and environmental conservation in the lakes of Central New York.
Tickets can be bought online or at the gate for $10 per person. Children under the age of 13 are free. Parking is free to the public. Hours are Thursday and Friday from 1pm to 9pm, Saturday from 10am to 9pm, and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
