Former University Conduct Advisor Arrested For Possession Of Child Pornography

Syracuse University suspended an employee following his arrest for possession of child pornography charges, officials said.

Ryan K. Gavigan, 28, was a Student Conduct Advisor for the University’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. He has worked for the university since January 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile.

New York State Police arrested him Wednesday for Promoting the Sexual Performance of a Child, a Class “E” Felony, and Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child, according to a press release.

The arrest came as part of a joint investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to NY State Police. The task force consists of New York State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations Division.

Gavigan of Morgan Road, Clay, was released Wednesday evening after being arraigned at the Onondaga County Justice Center, according to a press release.

He previously worked as an Assistant Residence Director while attending the University to earn his Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Gavigan has worked with students and children outside of Syracuse, according to his LinkedIn profile. His resume states he was a Resident Advisor while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Government at Georgetown University and was a Church Youth Group Facilitator for two years.

The Syracuse University OSSR works to resolve violations of the Student Code of Conduct. Gavigan’s name has been removed from the office’s staff page on the university’s code of conduct website.
