No. 11 Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Crumbles to No. 8 North Carolina 14-12

11th ranked Syracuse was this close to making it a one goal game with just 20 seconds remaining.  But Finn Thompson’s goal would be called back on a goal mouth violation. So, the Orange fell 14-12 to No. 8 North Carolina. Syracuse scored four goals in the last two and a half minutes. But it was just too little too late for SU.

Gait: “They just played free, went to the net and made plays, You know, they found the open guys. They weren’t thinking about what they needed to do.  They just were reacting. And it shows what type of players they are when they’re able to just play and not worry about making mistakes. And, again, that’s something we try and work on.”

Breschi: “Everything. You know, I don’t know. Did we relax? Did we all those things?  I think they just made plays. So, credit goes to Syracuse for making plays. They were down six goals with three minutes to go.  And, you know, they made it a one goal game. Fortunate for us, this club was in the crease. So, at the end of the day, we’re thrilled.”

This loss isn’t exactly timely for SU. The Orange now are on a three-game losing skid. It’s longest streak since 2023. And, now it’s postseason time where the fourth seeded Orange have to take on top seeded Notre Dame in round one of the ACC championship.  Reminder, SU knocked off ND 14-9 right here in the Dome before this losing streak.
