Fast starts, long rallies, and domination highlighted a 6-1 season opening win as Syracuse took down Cornell. The Orange started out quickly, winning their doubles point to go up 1-0 and from there, the Orange never looked back. Syracuse would go on to win 5 of their 6 single matches, all 2 sets to nothing. For Syracuse head coach Younes Limam, starting out fast is not just important for the match against Cornell, but for the season as a whole.
Coach Liamm – “Confidence comes from within so we will take this one. I know we are going to have a challenging one on Saturday so we’ll get ready for it and we were a little bit nervous which was expected for the first match of the season but really proud and pleased with the way we carried that momentum to the finish line”
Shiori Ito – “Starting strong is very important to have confidence in myself. It is very important to have a strong start and for the rest of the season.”
And Syracuse is no stranger to getting out of the gates fast. The Orange have started the season with an opener win in four straight years. In fact, in the prior three, the ‘Cuse have used that momentum to start the season 2-0. This Saturday against James Madison, the Orange look to do just that. Start time is set for 11 AM.
